What You'll Do
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for materials and labor.
- Estimate labor, equipment, and material costs.
- Research historical project costs, purchase orders, and productivity data.
- Identify project risks that may impact overall project costs.
- Maintain project tracking using Microsoft Excel and Smartsheet.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams.
- Provide timely estimating updates throughout the bidding process.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and documentation.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
- 6 months to 2 years of estimating experience in the construction industry.
- Experience estimating steel, sheet metal, structural steel, metal fabrication, or architectural metal projects.
- Experience preparing full lifecycle cost estimates, including:
- Material costs
- Labor costs
- Equipment costs
- Time estimates
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using Smartsheet or the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to read construction drawings and project specifications.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred
- Experience creating basic Excel formulas (SUM, IF, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, etc.).
- Experience working in commercial construction or fabrication environments.
- Familiarity with construction estimating best practices.
