Job Overview
The Security Officer will work under the supervision of the Safety Officer. The Security Officer is to protect property, personnel, and clients at assigned locations. To monitor and maintain parking lots and issue parking infractions. This position requires the Officer to provide and maintain their own legally registered firearm and to be fully licensed and certified to carry both lethal and less-than-lethal weapons in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. It is also required to carry and maintain an Armed Security Officer license through the State of Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance.
Education and Experience Required
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Valid Firearm Carry Permit
Education and Experience Preferences
- Non-profit Experience.
- 1-3 years of experience as a Security Officer or similar role in a professional security setting.
- Military or Law Enforcement Experience.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a plus
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Familiarity with security equipment and systems, such as access control systems, surveillance cameras, alarms, and emergency response procedures.
- Proficiency with computers and related software, such as incident reporting systems and CCTV monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws governing firearms and armed Security Officers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (includes, but not limited to):
- Enforce the protection and security of property, personnel, and clients at designated locations under the direction of the Safety Officer.
- Conduct routine patrols of facilities and surrounding areas to identify and address potential security risks or violations.
- Monitor parking lots to ensure compliance with regulations and issue parking infractions as necessary.
- Monitor and review security camera footage to detect and respond to suspicious or unauthorized activity.
- Prevent, discover, delay, and/or detain people attempting to gain unauthorized access to property and/or personnel at the facility being protected.
- Maintain a Less-Than-Lethal Weapons Course Certificate to demonstrate expertise and compliance with local, state, and federal laws governing their use.
- Maintain and use less-than-lethal weapons, such as Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray or Conducted Energy Device (CED), in accordance with training from a Less-Than-Lethal Weapons Certificate Course.
- Follow guidelines for the safe handling and storage of less-than-lethal weapons, ensuring they are adhered to at all times.
- Provide and maintain a legally registered firearm in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Maintain full licensure and certification to carry a firearm as required by applicable legal authorities.
- Hold and sustain a valid Armed Security Officer license issued by the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance.
- Follow guidelines for the safe handling and storage of lethal weapons, ensuring they are adhered to at all times.
- Regularly inspect and maintain personal equipment, including less-than-lethal weapons and lethal weapons, to ensure proper functioning and safety.
- Accurately document and report all incidents, security breaches, and suspicious activities to appropriate personnel.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including but not limited to, disturbances, medical emergencies, and security threats.
- Adhere strictly to all organizational policies, procedures, and security protocols.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with staff, clients, and visitors to foster a secure and welcoming environment
- Security Officers shall answer questions and provide directions to visitors and building tenants.
- Serve as a point of contact for emergency response teams during incidents or crises, providing real-time updates on evolving situations.
- Be trained and certified in First Aid/CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) to provide emergency medical care when needed.
- Assist in employee termination processes by helping collect personal belongings, employee badge/keys, and parking pass from the exiting employee.
- Ensure that no company property is removed during the employee termination process, protecting the organization's assets and maintaining accountability for all equipment.
- Escort the terminated employee(s) off the property in a secure and timely manner, minimizing the possibility of further disruptions or incidents.
- Provide directions or support for obtaining visitor badges or access cards, ensuring a smooth experience for all patients, clients, venders and visitors.
- Assist with navigating how to register for parking by informing them about the process, available options, and any necessary documentation.
- Help patients and clients find their way in the building by providing clear instructions or assistance as needed.
- Stay current on emerging trends, technologies, and strategies in the field of security to enhance the effectiveness of protective measures.
- Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and trainings to further develop expertise in security-related fields.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
