About the Position
Town Hall Education is hiring Lead Technical Teaching Artists for offsite residency programming. Potential hires are paired with programs based on their availability and program schedule and needs.
Town Hall Education is the education department at Town Hall Theatre Company in Lafayette. THEd is a process-based program committed to serving students from preschool age through adulthood. Our core values lie in student empowerment and building connection, empathy, trust, and collaboration.
Programs are held 1-3 times a week depending on age range of the students and demand of program. Average class lengths range from 1 hour a week to 3 hours a week.
Lead Technical Teaching Artists report to the Residency Manager and Education Director.
Main Duties
- Create and implement a class plan that meets age appropriate theater skills, goals, and developmental milestones.
- Work with Residency Manager and Technical Director to design and assign projects for students to build for their school's shows
- Maintain strong communication with the rest of the production team during the process of building show elements.
- Attend any and all production meetings arranged by the Education Director or direct Head of Department.
- Participate in Professional Development and Staff Trainings throughout the year.
- Lead a safe, inclusive, and process-based classroom built to create learning opportunities that specifically draw upon the Skill Building focuses outlined for their program.
- Provide input on performance design of the program through Production Meetings and Paper Tech.
- Attend all tech rehearsals and performances as an advisor for students.
Experience
Minimum 1 year experience working in technical theater (set building, props, sound, lights, costumes) Experience or current practice in working with children ages 4th grade-12th grade. We're looking for technicians and designers who have patience for children and feel comfortably skilled enough to teach children tech theater basics.
Transportation a bonus, but not required. Town Hall Theatre is BART accessible from the Lafayette station (15 minute walk).
