About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer with deep expertise in carrier-grade ISP networks and advanced proficiency in Cisco and Juniper platforms. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience architecting, deploying, and supporting large-scale service provider infrastructures. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our core network serving municipal and enterprise customers.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, implement, and optimize ISP backbone and distribution networks.
· Architect and deploy MPLS (L2VPN/L3VPN), MPLS-TE, and large-scale BGP routing environments.
· Support and enhance ISP transport services including Metro Ethernet, QoS, Multicast, and Layer 2/Layer 3 delivery.
· Maintain and troubleshoot carrier-class routing platforms, including Cisco ASR, 9000, 9900, Metro Ethernet platforms, and Juniper routing systems.
· Perform fiber and transport-level diagnostics using industry-standard test equipment.
· Develop and maintain network documentation including diagrams, configurations, and operational SOPs.
· Collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, and external partners on cross-functional implementations.
· Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and operational standards for carrier networks.
· Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff and stakeholders.
Required Experience & Skills
· 15+ years of experience designing and supporting large-scale ISP or carrier networks.
· Expert knowledge of MPLS, MPLS-TE, L2VPN/L3VPN, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, QoS, Multicast, and carrier Ethernet technologies.
· Strong background with Cisco and Juniper routing platforms.
· Solid understanding of fiber plant design, optical testing tools, DWDM platforms, and CPE management models.
· Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced operational environments with complex multi-vendor networks.
· Excellent documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Certifications
· CCIE (Required) – Routing & Switching, Service Provider, or Enterprise.
· CCNP and JNCIA strongly preferred.
Preferred Attributes
· Experience supporting municipal or government networks.
· Strong customer service mindset and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
· Ability to independently lead design conversations, architecture reviews, and troubleshooting sessions.
Work Location & Schedule
· Based in Largo, MD
· Onsite 5 days per week (no remote/telework option)
Pay: $80.00 - $90.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
