Perform an advanced and specialized professional accounting position. An employee in this class performs specialized, technical, and complex accounting functions. Administrative direction is received from the Controller but is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in carrying out work assignments. Work is reviewed through audits, evaluation of statements and reports, and through observation of effectiveness of results achieved. Attention to detail is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in daily and monthly reconciliations, as needed, and in maintaining accounting systems, compiling and preparing budget and financial reports, monitoring budget control accounts, and analyzing revenues and expenditures.
- Creates and compiles information necessary for budget preparation, as well as audit work papers.
- Records financial transactions for use in preparing trial balances and individual fund statements.
- Reconciles accounts to general ledger.
- Audits persons responsible for petty cash and cashiers. Prepares miscellaneous work papers and schedules as requested.
- Downloads and distributes daily bank transaction reports. Reconciles capital loans, inventory, and meter deposit refunds.
- Process all adjustments that come from Customer Service. Posts transactions to General Ledger; posts Warehouse transactions related to adjustments.
- Maintains, documents, and adheres to internal control policies, specifically regarding the segregation of duties and authorization limits.
- Performs monthly reconciliation of accounts and investigate any discrepancies, holding oneself accountable for the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Participates in internal audit reviews and takes ownership of implementing corrective actions for any identified control gaps.

Associates Degree in accounting required. Bachelor’s Degree in accounting preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE DUTIES
This position is part of New Smyrna Beach Utilities Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal weekly salary shall be outlined in the Human Resources Manual or Collective Bargaining Agreement. Failure to appear to perform emergency management assignment and to work assigned shifts as scheduled by NSBU’s Emergency Incident Commander or individuals designated by the General Manager/CEO to assign such functions may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
