Position Summary
The Night Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure campus environment during evening and overnight hours. This position monitors campus facilities, patrols grounds, observes security systems, and ensures buildings are secured or accessible as scheduled. The officer serves as a visible presence and responds to incidents in accordance with College policies and procedures. The Security Officer must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems to detect suspicious activity or safety concerns
- Conduct routine patrols of campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds during assigned shifts
- Unlock and secure facility doors according to established schedules and event needs
- Respond to alarms, disturbances, and emergency situations in a timely and professional manner
- Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, or security concerns to appropriate personnel
- Provide assistance to students, employees, and visitors as needed
- Enforce campus policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment
- Coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency services when necessary
- Maintain communication with supervisors and other campus personnel during shift
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred
- Ability to work overnight hours, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to walk and patrol campus for extended periods of time
- Basic computer skills for monitoring systems and completing reports
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to patrol indoor and outdoor areas in varying weather conditions
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
- May require working independently with limited supervision
- Ability to pass and maintain Taser Certification
Salary
Salary is determined by education and experience as defined on the Public Safety Security Placement Schedule. A generous fringe benefits package is included.
