Position Summary
The Quality Inspector is responsible for verifying that injection-molded plastic components and finished assemblies meet customer specifications and internal quality standards throughout the production process. This role performs first piece approval, in-process, first-article, and final inspections using standard measurement and gauging equipment, documents inspection results, and identifies nonconforming material before it advances downstream. The Quality Inspector works closely with production, tooling, and other personnel to support a consistent, capable manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform first shot, first-article, in-process, and final inspections on injection-molded parts against engineering drawings, specifications, and control plans.
- Use vison systems, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and other precision measurement tools to verify dimensional accuracy.
- Conduct visual inspections of plastic molded parts to identify cosmetic defects and process-related nonconformities, including flash, sink marks, short shots, splay, warpage, discoloration, and other industry-standard molding defects.
- Record data from production machines.
- Record inspection data accurately in quality logs, check sheets, or the quality management system (QMS).
- Identify, tag, segregate, and document nonconforming material in accordance with established procedures.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective action activities in collaboration with quality, engineering and production.
- Create labels for in-process, and approved parts and verify packaging, labeling, and traceability requirements prior to shipment.
- Assist with maintaining calibration records for inspection and measurement equipment.
- Support internal audits and help maintain compliance with ISO 9001:2015 quality system requirements.
- Communicate quality concerns promptly to shift supervisors, production manager and quality manager.
- Maintain quality documentation classified and organized.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection work area using 5S principles.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Quality Manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in quality or manufacturing a plus.
- 1–3 years of quality inspection experience in an injection molding or plastics manufacturing environment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
- Proficiency with standard inspection tools (vision systems, microscopes, calipers, micrometers, gauges) and basic measurement principles.
- Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping habits.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook, for accurate data entry, record maintenance, and reporting within quality management systems and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with production and quality teams.
- Familiarity with CyFrame or other ERP systems.
- Ability to communicate with production and support teams.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, and cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive inspection tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 25–35 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to use hand tools and precision instruments requiring fine motor control and close visual focus.
- Work is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures; appropriate PPE is required.
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
