Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment, ensuring accuracy and patient safety.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current oral health status.
- Educate patients on proper dental care techniques, including brushing, flossing, and preventive practices tailored to pediatric dentistry when applicable.
- Assist the dentist during procedures with chairside assisting, ensuring smooth workflow and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and infection control measures aligned with healthcare standards like HIPAA compliance.
Requirements
- Valid Dental Hygienist license in accordance with state regulations.
- Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments.
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review and EHR management.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, equipment operation, and medical terminology relevant to dental care.
- Ability to perform dental x-rays accurately while maintaining patient safety standards.
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control practices, including aseptic technique.
- Excellent communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
- Familiarity with medical records management, medical coding, and HIPAA compliance requirements.
