Position Summary
Milwaukee Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and equity-focused leader to serve as Director of Equity. The Director will provide leadership, direction, and oversight for the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of districtwide student support services including ;Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Black and Latino Male Achievement (BLMA), Restorative Practices (RP), and Gender Identity and Inclusion (GII) ; designed to promote equitable access, student well-being, and positive educational outcomes.
The Director will work collaboratively with school leaders, central office departments, families, and community partners to strengthen integrated systems of support and ensure services are responsive to student and family needs. This position is responsible for aligning student support practices with district priorities, Board policies, administrative procedures, and applicable legal requirements.
Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and oversight for districtwide equitable student support services and related initiatives.

Develop, implement, and monitor goals, objectives, work plans, and performance measures for assigned areas.

Lead the design and continuous improvement of systems and practices that promote equitable access to student services and supports.

Direct the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of assigned student support programs and initiatives.

Use data to identify service gaps, monitor trends, evaluate effectiveness, and guide continuous improvement.

Collaborate with school leaders and central office staff to ensure consistent, student-centered implementation of support systems across schools.

Promote equitable, culturally responsive, and inclusive practices that address barriers to student success.

Supervise and evaluate assigned staff in accordance with district policies, procedures, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Support staff development through coaching, training, and performance feedback.

Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, Board policies, and administrative procedures.

Develop and manage assigned budgets and resources in alignment with district priorities and fiscal guidelines.

Coordinate with families, community organizations, and agency partners to strengthen supports for students and families.

Prepare reports, recommendations, and presentations for senior leadership, the Superintendent, Board committees, and the Board as assigned.

Attend and participate in meetings, committees, professional learning opportunities, and community events as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
-
Master¿s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational leadership, school counseling, social work, public administration, or a related field

Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student services, school administration, or a related field

Demonstrated experience leading programs, initiatives, or systems designed to improve student outcomes and access to support services

Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing programs, departments, or budgets
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in a large urban school district

Experience leading work related to attendance, student engagement, behavior supports, school climate, restorative practices, re-engagement, family support, or coordinated student services

Experience building partnerships with community agencies and stakeholder groups

Bilingual or multilingual skills
Licenses and Certifications

Valid Wisconsin administrator license, or eligibility for appropriate Wisconsin licensure, as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of student services systems, supports, and best practices in a public school setting

Knowledge of educational equity principles and effective student-centered support systems

Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to student services

Ability to analyze and use data to inform planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement

Ability to lead complex districtwide initiatives and manage multiple priorities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, families, and community partners

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
Working Conditions

Work is performed in office, school, and community-based settings

Frequent travel throughout the district is required

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
Physical Demands

Ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use standard office equipment for extended periods
