Position Summary:
The Recreational Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is responsible for supervising and
supporting clients during recreational and wellness activities, including use of the sauna, cold
plunge, and gym facilities. This role promotes the safe, therapeutic, and appropriate use of
wellness equipment while fostering positive engagement, emotional regulation, and healthy
coping skills among clients in a behavioral health setting.
SCHEDULE:
Part Time: Friday & Saturday 4p-9:30p
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Supervise clients during recreational and wellness activities, ensuring safety and
adherence to facility rules and treatment plans.
● Oversee and maintain the sauna, cold plunge, and gym areas—monitoring
temperatures, cleanliness, and equipment functionality.
● Encourage participation in fitness and wellness activities that support mental health,
stress management, and recovery goals.
● Provide motivation, emotional support, and redirection as needed to help clients engage
appropriately in recreational settings.
● Document client participation, behavior, and any incidents in accordance with program
policies.
● Monitor clients for signs of distress, dehydration, or medical concerns during physical
activity and report concerns immediately.
● Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by enforcing policies and modeling
professional, healthy behavior.
● Participate in team meetings, training, and supervision as required.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or GED required;
● Prior experience in behavioral health, fitness supervision, or recreation therapy strongly
preferred.
● CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
● Strong communication, observation, and de-escalation skills.
● Ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate care.
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to stand, walk, and supervise clients for extended periods.
● Able to assist clients safely with basic fitness or wellness equipment.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily based in a behavioral health facility’s recreation area. It involves
interaction with clients who may be experiencing emotional distress or behavioral challenges.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
