Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field
- Five to ten years of experience designing custom electrical switchgear systems
- Experience independently leading engineered-to-order switchgear design projects
- Experience designing low- and medium-voltage electrical switchgear
- Experience developing one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and panel layouts
- Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, and NEC requirements
- Experience performing short-circuit studies
- Experience performing protective device coordination studies
- Experience performing arc-flash studies
- Experience translating customer specifications into manufacturable electrical designs
- Experience supporting switchgear fabrication, assembly, and testing
Preferred Skills
- Experience designing custom power distribution equipment
- Experience selecting circuit breakers, relays, transformers, bus systems, and protective devices
- Experience developing bills of materials and manufacturing documentation
- Experience with electrical design or power system analysis software
- Experience supporting engineered-to-order manufacturing operations
- Knowledge of switchgear testing, inspection, and regulatory certification requirements
- Experience resolving production and field issues involving electrical switchgear
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the custom design of low- and medium-voltage electrical switchgear systems
- Develop engineered-to-order solutions based on customer specifications and application requirements
- Create detailed one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
- Select electrical components and protective devices for custom switchgear assemblies
- Verify designs for compliance with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, and applicable regulatory standards
- Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies
- Validate switchgear performance, protection, and safety requirements
- Develop design documentation, bills of materials, and manufacturing release packages
- Coordinate technical requirements with sales, customers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams
- Review designs for manufacturability, cost, schedule, reliability, and performance
- Provide technical support during switchgear fabrication, assembly, and testing
- Investigate and resolve design, production, and testing issues
- Review test results and verify compliance with approved design requirements
- Manage switchgear design activities from initial requirements through manufacturing release
- Maintain design revisions and engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle
