Metglas, Inc., located in Conway, SC near Myrtle Beach is a world leading producer of Amorphous Metal Ribbon. Since our company began in the 1970’s, Metglas, Inc. (then Allied Signal located in Morristown, NJ) pioneered the development and production of amorphous metal, a unique alloy that exhibits a structure in which the metal atoms occur in a random pattern. The key to Metglas Inc.’s proprietary manufacturing process is the rapid-solidification of molten alloy at a rate of approximately one million degrees Celsius per second.
We are currently hiring for a full-time Buyer (temp, to potential temp to hire) to help in our Procurement Department for our busy 24/7 metal manufacturing foundry.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Procure goods and services necessary to support the production plan and to achieve specified targets for delivery, cost and quality.
- Develop long-term collaborative relationships with suppliers in support of our cost reduction goals.
- Negotiates and purchases materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Issues quotation requests, analyzes competitive bids, awards contracts, and issues purchase orders.
- Executes contractual agreements for the purchase of capital goods and services.
- Manages raw material purchases to include forecasting usage, prepare AOP pricing, scheduling deliveries & inventory control.
- Maintains contact with suppliers’ representatives, keeping abreast of changing market conditions and supplier dependability.
- Develop multi-source network of suppliers for procured items.
- Oversees service agreements & long-term contracts.
- Selects potential suppliers for major capital equipment/construction projects.
- Partners with customs brokers to ensure seamless import/export compliance.
- Manages bi-annual supplier assessment process and ensures compliance with Metglas Quality Plan.
- Conducts all activities in a highly ethical manner and maintains good supplier relationships.
Attributes/Skills Required/Sought:
- In-depth knowledge of base material markets (steel, ferro alloys, nickel alloys, precious metals, ceramics, gases, packaging).
- Thorough working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes, & procedures
- Excellent negotiation skills.
