Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Manager/Lead Bartender to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for mixology and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service in a casual bar environment. As the Manager/Lead Bartender, you will be responsible for crafting beverages, assuring efficient and effective sales transactions, inventory management, merchandising, entertainment and promotions, as well as day-to-day facility management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Performs a variety of duties related to customer service, communications, inventory management, and staffing. The Manager is expected to have a firm grasp of bar management with the ability to develop and achieve goals and will display a positive attitude and promote teamwork. The Bar Manager needs to have a competent knowledge of different types of beer, wine and spirits. To perform this position well, employee must report to work timely and on a regular basis. This position does not offer a remote or hybrid option.
MANAGEMENT
Managing and overseeing day-to-day operations of On-Sale and Off-Sale Liquor Store. These aspects include but are not limited to maintaining facilities, identifying and contacting potential suppliers, and negotiating pricing, tracking and maintaining inventory, managing budgets, and assisting in identifying and setting goals for sales/revenue.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training staff. Supervising bartending staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about products, policies, and procedures.
- Scheduling staff to ensure that the establishment runs smoothly during peak hours.
- Working, as a bartender, at least 4 shifts per week.
- Enforcing health and safety rules and ensuring that quality and safety guidelines are followed by all staff.
- Doing weekly inventory, ordering, handling deliveries and maintaining the condition of beer and wine, change kegs and restock the bar and off-sale.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding alcohol service and sales, tobacco sales, and cannabis sales.
- Working with City Administration to keep and maintain up to date licenses.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment with both staff and clients.
- Identifying, planning, and executing promotional events with feedback from staff, customers, and community.
- Ability to communicate calmly and effectively to diffuse tense interactions that might occur to maintain a safe and fun atmosphere for both guests and staff
- Doing daily and weekly cleaning. Cleaning floors, windows, walls, restrooms, and common areas. Deep cleaning keg lines, fridges, and food equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and regularly scheduled inspections and servicing of equipment.Develop and implement emergency plans and address urgent repairs.
- May be required to clear sidewalks in front of municipal and at off-sale door during the winter.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure all customers receive outstanding service by providing a friendly, clean, and inviting atmosphere which includes staff greeting and acknowledging every guest, maintaining outstanding cleanliness standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of guest service.
- Maintain strong knowledge of store inventory and purchasing.
- Ensure all staff know how to effectively operate POS system including making accurate change, ID Verification, credit card sales and verification, returns/refunds.
- Check to ensure daily opening/closing procedures were done accurately.
- Ensure the compliance of store policies, procedures, and practices, support security and loss prevention.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of retail and marketing best practices and procedures, specific to on & off sale operations.
- Knowledge of city, state, and federal regulations regarding the sale of alcohol including assessing sobriety of patrons to avoid sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone under the influence. Knowledge of city, state, and federal regulations regarding tobacco and cannabis.
- Strong working knowledge of opening and closing procedures including alarms, safe, POS register balancing, security, and emergency contact information.
- Strong working knowledge of POS systems especially as to how it interacts with guests.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, counting, calculating percentages, etc.
- Ability to read and comprehend written information (e.g. drivers licenses, credit cards, flyers) and written instructions (e.g. memos, training materials, display instructions, rebate offers, and safety warnings, equipment manuals, etc).
- Ability to perform training of staff, observe, document, and provide coaching, feedback, and assistance with performance evaluations.
- Ability to work under pressure, with frequent interruptions, and effectively deal with angry, irate, or disgruntled people.
- Ability to plan and perform duties independently with limited supervision.
- Ability and willingness to learn additional duties as well as collaborate, participate, and assist with all department functions, meetings, events, and special projects, as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 21 years old or older with a valid MN Drivers License with no restrictions
- Bar/Restaurant experience or managerial experience is preferred
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills being friendly and professional.
- Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations
- Knowledge of inventory management and cost control
- Excellent communication and strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills
- Ability to communicate calmly and effectively to successfully defuse tense situations.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, stressful environment
- Must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time and to carry heavy items
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and work as a bartender when staff are ill and unable to find a replacement
