Reviews or designates the review of Regulation Safety Unit admission and local extension decisions; visits and counsels assigned youth to provide assurance to the youth¿s well-being; and makes determinations to release youth from the security program before expiration of the approved period.
Provides oversight, leadership, training and technical assistance to case managers and youth development coaches in the performance of their duties; promotes ethical leadership, excellent performance, confidentiality, a positive working environment, and professional development.
Monitors performance of duties; provides feedback, coaching, and mentoring and uses the coaching, monitoring, and oversight tools for their assigned program area; conducts performance reviews of supervised staff; and initiates or takes corrective personnel actions as necessary.
Promotes understanding of the security program and residential treatment goals and objectives and coaches staff on strategies to achieve goals and objectives; coordinates the implementation of policy and procedural changes; collaborates with training specialists to identify training needs of unit staff; and ensures case managers and youth development coaches complete training requirements.
Monitors and evaluates measures to maintain a secure residential setting; reviews documentation regarding head counts, serious incident reports, suicide risk screenings, and contraband searches to ensure compliance with established procedures and standards; identifies inconsistent practices and implements solutions; coordinates the transferring and transporting of youth; intervenes during emergencies or altercations to prevent escapes and gain physical control of youth; and provides first aid as necessary.
Provides leadership and guidance to the STAR Team and Gang Intelligence unit and coordinates all related activities, including training for STAR Team members.
Reads and reviews information found in youth records related to the youth health and safety and to the security of the facility; implements processes to ensure case managers provide appropriate information to other staff; oversees implementation of case management standards; reviews and monitors preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports.
Monitors and evaluates group-counseling sessions, provides counseling to individual youth and in group settings; conducts interventions; demonstrates the use of active listening techniques in interactions with youth and provides training and coaching on such techniques to unit and case management staff.
Monitors and evaluates measures to ensure unit cleanliness, sanitation, and youth hygiene and compliance with safety policies and procedures; identifies inconsistent practices and implements solutions; collaborates with maintenance specialists and risk management specialists to ensure compliance with established standards.
Participates in activities relating to the facility¿s compliance with TJJD policies and procedures, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, TJJD Case Management Standards, collaborates with the facility¿s compliance officer regarding compliance monitoring activities.
Cooperates and consults with the appropriate program supervisor and with facility administrators to ensure established objectives and goals are met; shares relevant information regarding the impact of the unit¿s operations and activities; identifies concerns and trends, and recommends improvements to resolve problems and enhance operations or the delivery of services.
Facilitates multi-disciplinary team meetings and actively participates in staff and special meetings regarding facility and unit operations and activities; prepares for such meetings; acts as unit liaison with the facility¿s compliance officer and facility administrators; considers ideas and points of view from other staff members.
Administers and supervises youth urinalysis tests.
Assists in monitoring the physical security of the campus daily; monitors and supervises perimeter security checks daily; and outside Regulation Safety Unit operations. Makes recommendations to the facility administration regarding security and operation safety enhancements.
Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
