At Bella's Play & Stay, we believe exceptional pet care starts with exceptional leadership.
We're looking for a hands-on General Manager who is passionate about developing people, creating a culture of accountability, and providing outstanding care for every dog that walks through our doors.
This isn't a management position where you'll spend your day behind a desk. Our General Manager leads from the front—working alongside the team, coaching employees, solving problems, supporting dogs with varying behavioral needs, and ensuring every aspect of our operation runs smoothly.
You'll work closely with our Owner and Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of the facility while developing department managers, shift leads, and team members into confident, capable leaders.
About Bella's
Bella's Play & Stay is more than a boarding and daycare facility. We strive to create an environment where every dog has the opportunity to succeed.
Many of the dogs we care for have unique personalities, limited socialization, anxiety, fear, or behavioral challenges. Rather than simply managing those behaviors, we work to understand them. We believe in reading body language, building trust, creating positive experiences, and helping dogs become more confident over time whenever it can be done safely.
Our General Manager plays a vital role in fostering this philosophy while creating a workplace built on teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and continuous growth.
What You'll Do
- Oversee the daily operations of our boarding, daycare, reception, and grooming departments
- Lead, mentor, and support department managers, shift leads, and team members
- Build a culture of accountability through coaching, leadership, and consistent follow-through
- Create and manage employee schedules while maintaining appropriate staffing levels
- Ensure company policies, procedures, and care standards are consistently followed
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and employee development
- Provide coaching and performance feedback to help employees grow professionally
- Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and empathy
- Monitor labor efficiency and daily operational performance
- Perform regular facility walk-throughs to ensure cleanliness, safety, and quality standards
- Collaborate with the Owner and Operations Manager on staffing, operational improvements, and company initiatives
- Step into daily operations whenever needed to support the team
The Leader We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who naturally brings calm, confidence, and steady leadership to challenging situations.
Professional experience working with dogs is certainly valuable, but we believe leadership, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and a willingness to learn are just as important. We are willing to train the right person in our handling techniques, philosophy, and operational systems.
The right candidate:
- Leads with confidence, professionalism, and integrity
- Remains calm under pressure and helps others do the same
- Takes ownership and enjoys solving problems
- Is comfortable making decisions in fast-paced environments
- Can coach employees through difficult situations while maintaining a positive, supportive culture
- Is confident handling dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments or is eager to develop that confidence through training
- Approaches behavioral challenges with curiosity, patience, and sound judgment rather than avoidance
- Believes every interaction is an opportunity to help both people and dogs become more successful
- Leads by example and isn't afraid to jump in wherever needed
QualificationsRequired
- Previous leadership or management experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to confidently lead a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Willingness to learn canine behavior, body language, and our handling philosophy
Preferred
- Experience leading teams in hospitality, retail, childcare, veterinary medicine, boarding, daycare, grooming, training, or another service-based industry
- Professional experience working with dogs
- Experience coaching and developing employees
- Experience creating employee schedules and managing staffing
- Knowledge of canine behavior and body language
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working around dogs of all breeds and sizes
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to actively participate in the day-to-day operations of the facility
