Job Summary:
The Resident Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents to and from medical
appointments, outings, and other scheduled activities. This role ensures the comfort, safety, and
well-being of residents while adhering to all state and federal transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate the facility’s van to transport residents.
- Assist residents in and out of the vehicle, ensuring the use of appropriate mobility aids as
needed.
- Ensure all residents are properly secured with seatbelts, wheelchair restraints, and other
safety equipment.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and facility policies regarding transportation.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking fuel levels, tire
pressure, brakes, and lights.
- Maintain cleanliness and routine maintenance of the vehicle, reporting any mechanical
issues immediately.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff and residents regarding transport schedules
and any delays.
- Ensure residents’ medical needs and emergency protocols are followed during transport.
- Assist with scheduling transportation for residents as directed by management.
- Uphold confidentiality and dignity of residents at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience as a van driver or in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Ability to assist residents with limited mobility, including operating a wheelchair lift if
applicable.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, bending, and assisting residents in and out of the vehicle.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Work Schedule:
- Hours may vary based on resident needs and appointment schedules.
- Occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required
