The Deckhand and Deckhand/Cook stands a proper watch and performs that pertain to the general maintenance, repair, sanitation, and upkeep of the equipment, and other areas of deck department responsibiliies. These may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Operational Duties :
- Making / breaking the tow;
- Securing, dropping, spotting, and switching barges at docks;
- Assisting the vessel and tow in making locks;
- Standing lookout, or riding the head of the tow as a lookout; and,
- Performing the various tasks necessary to carry out the above, such as operating winches and capstans, and line handling, including splicing and throwing lines.
Maintenance Duties - Deckhand
- Chipping and painting vessel.
- Perform general sanitary cleaning of work-crew areas, heads and showers, and galley.
- Dump refuse buckets regularly, and sweep and mop work-crew areas.
- Clean windows and port lights as necessary.
- Other equipment maintenance as needed.
Housekeeping Duties – Deckhand and Deckhand/Cook
- Scouring the vessel;
- Cleaning your personal quarters;
- Cleaning the wheelhouse and galley;
- Cleaning the heads and companionways;
- Maintaining the vessel, grease winches, dogs on hatch covers, etc.;
- Performing other cleaning chores as directed by the Master.
- Prepare meals daily for crews of 6 for the duration of your voyage
Safety Duties
- Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the Master or Mate on watch, exercising the ‘stop work’ authority as necessary and making corrections when capable.
Other duties as directed by the Master or Mate.
Deckhand and Deckhand/Cook Requirements:
- MMC, AB Endorsement( strongly preferred)
- TWIC
- STCW certificate
- State Driver’s License
- US Passport(preferred)
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.

Daily rate includes ATO(accumulated time off). For every day worked, employee earns paid time off. ATO is accrued on each paycheck and can be taken when the employee is not working. Vacation and OT available as well.
