Founded in 2013, we serve 2,500+ youth annually across Northern New Jersey and Northwest Indiana via three core programs:
- School and Community Wellness Programs that foster community healing, social-emotional development, and school/community belonging, with over 90% of participants reporting improved mental health outcomes;
- Early-Career Workforce Development Programs that guide participants toward academic and professional milestones, achieving a 95% post-secondary success rate among graduating high school seniors; and

Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate, community-connected Teen Engagement & Recruitment Coordinator to help grow our reach in Gary, Indiana and Northwest Indiana. This part-time, field-based role is responsible for recruiting teens (ages 13–18) from across the region into Butterfly Dreamz's youth development programs and research initiatives—including our Teen Mental Health Ambassadors program and School and Community Wellness Programs.
The ideal candidate is someone who knows and loves the Gary and Northwest Indiana community, can build authentic relationships with young people and their families, and is energized by the idea of connecting teens to transformative leadership and wellness experiences. This role requires regular travel throughout Gary and the surrounding area, so a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required.

Key Responsibilities
Teen Outreach & Recruitment
- Conduct active outreach across Gary and Northwest Indiana—including schools, community centers, faith-based organizations, neighborhoods, and local events—to identify and recruit teens for Butterfly Dreamz programs and research
- Build trusting, genuine relationships with teens, parents/guardians, school staff, and community partners to generate referrals and program enrollment
- Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for Butterfly Dreamz's mission, programs, and research in the Gary and Northwest Indiana community
- Distribute program materials, flyers, and information to prospective participants and community stakeholders
- Follow up with interested teens and families to support their enrollment and connection to programs
Community Engagement
- Represent Butterfly Dreamz at community events, school fairs, and partner-hosted gatherings to raise awareness of available opportunities for teens
- Collaborate with community members and organizations to support youth in areas including: Leadership Growth, Leadership Identity, Improved Mental Health, Community Belonging, Post-Secondary Education & Career Access, and Resolution of Social Determinants of Health Needs
- Identify new community partners, schools, and sites for outreach and relationship-building
Coordination & Tracking
- Track outreach activities, recruitment contacts, and enrollment numbers using provided tools and tracking systems
- Communicate regularly with program staff to share leads, updates, and community intelligence
- Participate in brief check-ins or team meetings as needed (may be remote or in-person)

Qualifications
Required:
- Experience working with teens or youth in a community, school, educational, or social services setting
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to connect authentically with adolescents and families from diverse backgrounds
- Passion for youth development and commitment to the mission of Butterfly Dreamz
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a field-based role
- Flexibility to work some evenings or weekends as needed
Preferred:
- Deep familiarity with Gary, Indiana and the Northwest Indiana community, including local schools, organizations, and resources
- Experience with outreach, recruitment, or community engagement in a nonprofit or human services context
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in social work, education, human services, or a related field—equivalent lived experience and community knowledge strongly considered
- Basic data entry or tracking skills
- Bilingual a plus
