Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and repair operations for our fleet within the waste management industry. This leadership role is vital in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our vehicle and equipment fleet during the second shift. The ideal candidate will possess extensive mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with heavy equipment, and strong supervisory skills to lead a team of technicians. Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities for all fleet vehicles and heavy equipment during the second shift, ensuring timely repairs and inspections.
- Oversee diagnostic procedures utilizing schematics, automotive electrical systems, and other technical manuals to identify issues accurately.
- Manage maintenance schedules for diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air brake systems, suspension components, and other mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards related to vehicle repair, including HVAC systems, tire service, welding, and heavy equipment operation.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts involving excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractor-trailers, farm machinery, industrial equipment, and power tools.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, parts inventory, and service histories using computerized maintenance management systems.
- Provide mentorship and training to technicians on mechanical systems repair, automotive diagnostics, welding techniques, electrical system troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure availability of parts such as shocks & struts, belts, filters, and other essential components.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness by conducting regular safety meetings and ensuring adherence to OSHA standards.
- Assist in developing preventive maintenance programs aimed at reducing downtime and extending equipment lifespan.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in heavy truck repair, heavy equipment mechanics, or automotive repair with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or lead technician role.
- Extensive knowledge of dealership procedures related to vehicle diagnostics and repairs.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques and operating heavy machinery such as excavators or cranes.
- Familiarity with schematics for electrical wiring diagrams and hydraulic systems.
- Strong understanding of diesel engine repair, transmissions, suspension systems, HVAC systems, and brake repairs.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic software.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately for complex mechanical repairs.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively during second shift operations.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in recordkeeping and inventory management.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members across departments while maintaining high customer service standards.
