Manufacturing Supervisor - CNC Turning & Milling
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for leading daily production operations within a CNC machining environment specializing in turning and milling processes. This role oversees machine shop personnel, ensures production schedules are met, maintains quality and safety standards, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong machining knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience supervising CNC operators, setup technicians, and machinists. Experience with Mazak CNC equipment, Mazatrol controls, and Mastercam programming software is highly preferred. The successful candidate will support efficient manufacturing processes, optimize machine performance, and foster a culture of quality, safety, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of CNC turning and milling operations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop CNC machinists, setup technicians, and machine operators.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure jobs are completed on time while meeting quality requirements.
- Optimize machine utilization, productivity, and workflow efficiency.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and setup issues to minimize downtime.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations, company policies, and manufacturing procedures.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production Planning, and Maintenance teams to support operational objectives.
- Review and validate machine setups, first-piece inspections, and process documentation.
- Analyze production data and implement corrective actions to improve performance metrics.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, throughput, cost reduction, and waste elimination.
- Maintain staffing schedules, approve timekeeping records, and participate in performance evaluations.
- Support training programs to enhance employee skills and cross-functional capabilities.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to quality and production issues.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, customer-specific, and internal quality requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent manufacturing experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC turning and milling processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, blueprints, and process documentation.
- Experience with cutting tools, fixtures, inspection equipment, and machining best practices.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing/production reporting systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating and supervising production involving Mazak CNC machines.
- Familiarity with Mazatrol programming and Mazak machine controls.
- Experience with Mastercam software for CNC programming, toolpath development, and manufacturing process optimization.
- Experience reviewing and supporting CNC programs generated through CAD/CAM systems.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machining, including live tooling and mill-turn equipment.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in aerospace, medical device, automotive, defense, or other precision machining environments.

Physical Requirements
