Dispatcher
Position Summary
The Dispatcher is responsible for the daily planning, coordination, and execution of local delivery routes for a fleet of commercial vehicles performing mostly Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) deliveries. This position ensures efficient route utilization, on-time customer deliveries, effective driver communication, and optimal fleet productivity while maintaining a high level of customer service and operational efficiency.
The Dispatcher serves as the primary liaison between customer service, warehouse operations, drivers, and customers to ensure all delivery commitments are met safely and cost-effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dispatch and Route Planning
- Develop and manage daily delivery schedules and routes for LTL deliveries throughout New England.
- Optimize route efficiency to maximize vehicle utilization and minimize transportation costs.
- Assign deliveries and pickups based on driver availability, vehicle capacity, delivery windows, and geographic considerations.
- Monitor daily route performance and make real-time adjustments as necessary.
- Coordinate special delivery requests, rush orders, and customer-specific requirements.
Driver Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for company drivers throughout the workday.
- Provide route instructions, delivery documentation, and operational updates.
- Monitor driver productivity, route adherence, and service performance.
- Assist drivers in resolving delivery issues, customer concerns, and unexpected route challenges.
- Coordinate driver schedules, vacation coverage, and workload balancing.
Customer Service and Communication
- Communicate delivery status and scheduling updates to customers and internal departments.
- Respond promptly to delivery inquiries, service concerns, and transportation issues.
- Work closely with Customer Service and Warehouse teams to ensure accurate order fulfillment and timely deliveries.
- Investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies, shortages, damages, and service failures.
Safety and Compliance
- Promote safe driving practices and operational procedures.
- Monitor compliance with company transportation policies and procedures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and service interruptions and assist with corrective actions.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
- Minimum 3-5 years of transportation, dispatching, logistics, fleet management, or route planning experience.
- Experience managing local delivery operations and LTL distribution preferred.
- Experience in industrial, chemical, wholesale distribution, or similar environments is a plus.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of transportation operations, routing, and dispatch principles.
- Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS), routing software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an office.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
