Surgical Case Manager Job Summary:
- The Surgical Case Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the care of patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role ensures that all clinical, logistical, and administrative components of the surgical process are effectively organized to support safe, timely, and efficient patient care. The Surgical Case Manager collaborates with surgeons, nursing staff, radiology, scheduling, and other departments to optimize patient outcomes and streamline surgical operations.
Surgical Case Manager Responsibilities:
- Review scheduled procedures to ensure required orders, consents, and documentation are completed prior to surgery. Facilitate communication between patients, surgeons, surgical vendors, and perioperative staff. Assist in resolving scheduling conflicts or missing clinical information prior to the day of surgery
- Verify preoperative testing, medical clearances, and required consultations are completed. Ensure appropriate implants, equipment, and specialty supplies are avaliable to scheduled procedures. Coordinate with departments such as Radiology, Pathology, and Laboratory when needed for surgical cases. Confirm proper authorization and insurance approvals.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient safety protocols. Participate in performance improvement initiatives related to surgical throughput, scheduling accuracy, and patient outcomes. Assist with audits related to surgical documentation and case preparation.
Surgical Case Manager Required Experience:
- Experience in perioperative services, surgical services, or case management preferred
Surgical Case Manager Educational Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing
- Current/Active Louisiana State Board of Nursing Licensure
- Current/Active CPR certification
Surgical Case Manager Physical Requirements:
- Light Work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor constitutes exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
- May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving patients as well as walking about from patients’ rooms, as well as to and from various hospital areas
