The starting salary for this position will be set competitively and commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 50% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Associate Portfolio Manager on the Collaborative Strategies team.
The Collaborative Strategies Portfolio provides flexibility for the CalSTRS investment team to pursue new and/or compelling strategies that align with the CalSTRS One Fund Approach. Specifically, it allows CalSTRS to capture opportunities beyond the frameworks or capacity of existing asset classes, as well as investments falling outside or across the asset classes, in both private and public markets.
Under the general direction of the Senior Portfolio Manager (SPM) of Collaborative Strategies, the Associate Portfolio Manager is responsible for participating in the day-to-day management and implementation of complex investment strategies within the Collaborative Strategies requiring a high degree of independence and discretionary judgment. The incumbent serves as a key investment professional assisting with the strategic management, performance optimization, and risk oversight of the Collaborative Strategies – Innovation (CSI) Portfolio. The role encompasses comprehensive portfolio stewardship with specialized expertise in private market Investments, while providing critical support for the broader Collaborative Strategies division's investment objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Possession of a degree or certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst or other equivalent financial certification.
- Investment management experience in private assets.
- Ability to develop and implement Investment private credit strategies and policies.
- Experience in sourcing and recommending optimal investment strategies.
- Strong understanding of investment portfolios, securities and analyses.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player and work collaboratively across multiple asset classes.
- Experience conducting initial and ongoing investment due diligence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to offer succinct, value-added recommendations, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to compliance with policies, procedures, and audit requirements.
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base paydifferential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
