Position: PV Installer, Commercial (Hawaii Island)
Reports to: Lead Installer / Director of Construction

Role Purpose The Commercial PV Installer supports the safe, high-quality, and timely completion of large-scale commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) system installations. This role assists the Lead Installer with hands-on assembly and mounting work while maintaining exceptional jobsite organization, continuously building technical skills, performing quality support tasks, and upholding the highest safety standards — all in alignment with Sunspear’s core values.
Key Responsibilities
Complete Solar Installations
- Assist the Lead Installer with assembling and installing solar racking, rails, brackets, flashing, ballast blocks, and mounting PV modules/panels as directed.
- Follow approved plans, manufacturer guidelines, and Sunspear quality standards always.
- Support the Residential and Service divisions with installations, repairs, or maintenance tasks as required to ensure overall company success.
- Contribute to the efficient and accurate completion of commercial PV system installations.
Organize Jobsite
- Support site preparation and daily jobsite organization to keep large-scale projects progressing safely and efficiently.
- Perform heavy material handling and lifting (solar panels, racking components, etc.).
- Operate tools and equipment (e.g., drills, torque wrenches, lifts if certified).
- Assist with setup of scaffolding or aerial work platforms as required.
Learn Install Techniques
- Actively learn mechanical installation techniques, structural and load considerations, safe rigging/lifting practices, and weatherproofing methods.
- Study and apply Sunspear quality standards through guided tasks, observation, and progressive responsibility.
- Seek feedback and continuously improve installation skills.
Perform Checks & Support Tasks
- Perform basic quality checks and support tasks as directed by the Lead Installer (e.g., verifying bolt torque, alignment, securement, and visual inspections).
- Document completed stages and capture photos of assemblies or key steps.
- Record quality observations in the company CRM when instructed.
- Report any issues, defects, or hazards to the Lead Installer immediately.
Adhere to Safety Protocols
- Strictly follow all safety protocols, including proper use of required PPE, fall protection systems, safe lifting techniques, and equipment lockout/tagout procedures.
- Secure work zones and maintain a clean, hazard-free environment.
- Immediately alert the Lead Installer to any unsafe conditions, damaged tools/equipment, or safety concerns.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in solar installation, construction, roofing, or related trade is preferred.
- Ability to work at heights and on rooftops comfortably.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL is a plus).
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from Lead Installers and supervisors.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support Residential and Service teams when needed.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials and equipment (up to 50–80 lbs repeatedly).
- Comfort working at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and standing for long durations.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind).
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise assembly and tool use.
- Stamina to perform physically demanding tasks for full workdays.
Preferred requirements
- OSHA 10 and/or 30 Certification.
- Strong understanding of NEC codes with emphasis on residential or commercial PV installations.
- Excellent customer service skills in addition to solid verbal and written communication skills.
- NABCEP certifications.
