Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ hand and upper extremity function through comprehensive evaluations, including physiology and anatomy knowledge.
- Develop personalized care plans targeting functional goals such as assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), fine motor skills, and strength building.
- Implement therapeutic interventions utilizing manual therapy techniques, splinting, and adaptive equipment to optimize recovery.
- Coordinate discharge planning by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless transition to home or community settings.
- Manage medical documentation accurately within electronic health records (EHR), ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and medical terminology.
- Provide patient education on injury prevention, activity modifications, and home exercise programs tailored for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities.
- Engage in case management activities to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and support patients’ long-term functional independence.
Qualifications
- Valid licensure as an Occupational Therapist with specialized training in Hand Therapy or certification from a recognized Hand Therapy certification program.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders, or post-acute care populations.
- Proven ability to work effectively across various settings including outpatient clinics, inpatient units (ICU or acute care), skilled nursing facilities, or home health environments.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy relevant to hand and upper extremity conditions.
- Experience working with students with disabilities or in school-based settings is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in medical documentation and electronic health records (EHR) management to ensure accurate case management and care planning.
- Excellent communication skills for patient care education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and documentation clarity.
