Pay Rate: $22–$24 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, school day hours
Summary of the Paraprofessional role:
A Paraprofessional provides classroom and one-on-one support to students with special needs in a school setting. This role includes assisting students with academic tasks, daily living skills, behavior support, classroom participation, and personal care needs as directed by the teacher or supervisor.
Paraprofessionals may support students in Learning Support, Emotional Support, Autistic Support, Life Skills Support, Physical Support, Multi-Disabilities Support, One-on-One, Floater, or Behavior Modification Support settings.
Responsibilities of the Paraprofessional role:
- Provide one-on-one, small group, and classroom support to assigned students
- Assist students with instructional activities, classroom assignments, reading, recitation, and other curriculum tasks
- Help students participate in regular and special education classroom settings
- Support behavior plans prepared by the teacher or school team
- Assist with recording and reporting student behavior or attendance information as requested
- Help students safely enter, exit, and move throughout the school building, including transportation areas
- Assist with daily living and personal care needs, including toileting, diapering, dressing, washing hands, feeding, and hygiene support as needed
- Provide support in the event of student injury or illness
- Assist with classroom organization, materials, and maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment
- Work cooperatively with teachers, special education staff, supervisors, and school administration
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements of the Paraprofessional role:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree or Credential of Competency preferred
- Experience working with children with special needs, behavioral needs, physical needs, or emotional support needs preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and supervisors
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to complete
- CPI certification may be requested by administration
- Must be willing to complete required annual training
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Must be courteous, cooperative, dependable, and service-oriented
- Ability to work in a school environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
- Child abuse clearance
- Criminal background check
- FBI fingerprinting
- Proof of physical and PPD; if history of positive PPD, chest X-ray is required
- Two forms of government-issued ID, including Social Security card
