About the Office
The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Eastern District of North Carolina (EDNC) is a unit of the Department of Justice, with its headquarters office in Raleigh and a smaller, satellite office on the coast in Wilmington. Assistant U.S Attorneys prosecute a wide variety of federal crime, including breaches of national security, child exploitation, public corruption, transnational organized crime, and violent crime. The position currently being filled will investigate white collar crime, with a specific focus upon healthcare fraud, other federal program fraud, and money laundering. Candidates with an interest or prior background in white collar investigations or prosecutions are encouraged to apply. The chosen candidate will work in the Economic Crimes Section of the office alongside other experienced white-collar prosecutors, auditors, and investigators. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Job Description
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina is seeking an outstanding attorney to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Appellate Division in Raleigh. The Appellate Division is responsible for representing the United States in criminal appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and for providing the Office legal guidance on complex and significant issues of federal criminal law. Attorneys in the Division prepare and file appellate briefs and present oral argument before the Fourth Circuit addressing a wide range of matters including constitutional challenges to convictions, statutory issues of first impression, sentencing challenges, and appeals from trials. Appellate AUSAs also advise the United States Attorney and criminal AUSAs on emerging legal issues, ensure consistency in the Office's legal positions, and contribute to the development of federal criminal law within the Circuit.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required to meet the operational needs of the Office. With continued training and experience, you will assume more advanced duties and increasingly complex assignments.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will demonstrate the ability to produce clear, well-reasoned written work under time constraints and will exhibit strong analytical, research, and writing skills. Applicants should possess sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to present complex legal issues effectively in both written and oral form. Preferred experience includes federal judicial clerkships, particularly at the appellate level; federal appellate practice; federal criminal litigation; or significant legal writing experience performed under deadlines. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of professional conduct and to the mission of the United States Attorney's Office.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $94,170.00 to $197,100.00 which includes 22.24% locality pay.
