We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Insurance Biller who is passionate about helping patients understand their insurance benefits while ensuring accurate billing and revenue cycle management.
Position Summary
The Medical Insurance Biller / Patient Benefits Specialist will be responsible for insurance verification, claims management, patient benefit education, and revenue cycle support. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of insurance terminology and can confidently explain insurance benefits and patient financial responsibilities in a clear, compassionate manner.
Responsibilities
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to patient appointments.
Explain insurance benefits and financial responsibilities to patients, including:
Copays
Deductibles
Coinsurance
Out-of-pocket maximums (OOP)
Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
Assist patients in understanding medical bills and insurance processing.
Submit, track, and follow up on insurance claims.
Investigate and resolve claim denials, rejections, and underpayments.
Post insurance and patient payments accurately.
Review accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.
Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claim status and appeals.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA and payer regulations.
Collaborate with front desk, clinical staff, and providers to ensure accurate documentation and billing.
Assist with prior authorizations and referral requirements when needed.
Provide exceptional customer service to patients regarding billing questions and concerns.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience required.
Dermatology or specialty practice experience preferred.
Strong understanding of commercial insurance, Medicare, and managed care plans.
Ability to explain insurance terminology in patient-friendly language.
Experience with claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and appeals.
Familiarity with EOBs, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums.
Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management software.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in dermatology billing and coding.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and modifier usage.
