Chief Engineer – Hampton Inn (Limited Service / Hands-On)
Position Summary:
The Chief Engineer is a working supervisor responsible for maintaining the property to Hampton Inn brand standards. This role is highly hands-on and performs daily maintenance tasks while overseeing one maintenance team member. The Chief Engineer ensures all guest rooms, public areas, and building systems are functional, safe, and visually appealing, enhancing the guest experience and protecting hotel assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily maintenance and repairs, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building upkeep
- Lead by example, actively completing work orders alongside the maintenance associate
- Supervise and support one maintenance team member, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and correctly
- Execute the hotel’s preventative maintenance program to protect assets and reduce emergency repairs
- Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and professionally
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, and exterior areas to maintain brand standards
- Maintain all major building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures with minimal disruption to hotel operations
- Coordinate and oversee outside vendors as needed, ensuring quality and brand compliance
- Maintain proper inventory of tools, parts, and supplies while controlling departmental expenses
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, safety regulations, and Hampton Inn brand guidelines
- Keep accurate records of work orders, preventative maintenance, inspections, and equipment logs
- Assist with exterior maintenance, landscaping support, and snow/ice removal as needed
Performance Metrics:
- Preventative Maintenance Completion: Achieve ≥95% completion of scheduled PMs each month
- Guest Service Requests: Resolve 95% of maintenance-related service requests within 24 hours
- Hampton Brand Audit Scores: Maintain 90% or higher on engineering-related audit categories
- Safety Compliance: Zero OSHA violations and full compliance with safety protocols
- Work Order Accuracy: Maintain detailed and accurate logs for all repairs, inspections, and inventory
- Budget Adherence: Maintain departmental expenses within approved budget limits
- Equipment Reliability: Minimize equipment downtime by proactively maintaining all critical systems
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a hotel or similar facility; Hampton Inn or Hilton brand experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general repair work
- Supervisory or lead experience preferred, especially managing a small team
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Basic computer skills for tracking work orders and preventive maintenance logs
- Ability to respond to emergency calls, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Working Conditions:

Pay: $21.50 - $24.00 per hour
