Position Description
The Tax Professional is responsible for preparing and reviewing individual, business, trust, and other tax returns while providing high-quality tax compliance and planning services to clients. This position works closely with clients and other members of the accounting team to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient completion of tax engagements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, corporations, trusts, estates, and other entities.
- Analyze financial information and tax documents to identify potential tax issues, deductions, credits, and planning opportunities.
- Communicate directly with clients to obtain necessary information and resolve tax-related questions.
- Research federal and state tax laws, regulations, and tax issues as needed.
- Assist with tax planning and projections for individual and business clients.
- Review tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws.
- Prepare tax estimates, extensions, and quarterly estimated tax payments.
- Assist with tax-related client correspondence and other special projects.
- Maintain organized and accurate workpapers and client documentation.
- Meet established deadlines and manage multiple client engagements effectively, particularly during tax season.
- Stay current on changes to federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with partners, managers, and other staff members to provide exceptional client service.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to firm policies and professional standards.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Previous public accounting or tax preparation experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state individual and business taxation.
- Ability to prepare and/or review a variety of tax returns.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and tax preparation software.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license or progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
- Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred.
- Experience with tax software such as UltraTax CS or similar programs.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
- Previous experience working with individual and business clients in a public accounting environment.
Job Type & Schedule:
Full-time
8 hour days
Monday – Friday (with extended hours January – April)
