Position Summary
The Academic Success Coach/Tutor is responsible for providing high-quality academic instruction and individualized support to students in grades K–12, with a primary emphasis on Mathematics while also supporting Reading Readiness, English Language Arts (ELA) and Science. This position is dedicated to helping students build academic confidence, strengthen foundational skills, improve grade-level proficiency, and develop positive learning habits in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.
The Academic Success Coach/Tutor collaborates with students, families, teachers, and program leadership to implement personalized learning plans that promote academic success and lifelong learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction in mathematics for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Tutor students in Reading Readiness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar, writing, English Language Arts. mathematics and science.
- Assess students' academic strengths and areas for growth to develop personalized instructional plans.
- Reinforce classroom instruction using evidence-based teaching strategies and differentiated instruction.
- Utilize manipulatives, technology, educational games, and interactive learning activities to enhance student engagement.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and academic growth.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, teachers, and program leadership regarding student progress and recommendations.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment that promotes confidence and academic achievement.
- Assist students with homework, test preparation, study skills, organization, and time management.
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills.
- Maintain classroom management and ensure student safety during instructional sessions.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training opportunities.
- Support enrichment activities, academic competitions, workshops, and family engagement events as assigned.
- Assist with snack distribution and supervision during designated program times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction or Program Director.
- Use online platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, Google Workspace, or similar tools when required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Mathematics, English, Elementary Education, or a science-related field preferred.
- Teaching certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience tutoring or teaching elementary and middle school students.
- Strong knowledge of Pennsylvania Academic Standards and grade-level curriculum.
- Demonstrated proficiency in mathematics instruction.
- Working knowledge of Reading Readiness, literacy development, phonics, reading comprehension, and English Language Arts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with intervention programs and differentiated instruction.
- Familiarity with educational technology and virtual learning platforms.
- Knowledge of progress monitoring and data-driven instruction.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students and families.
- CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the instructional setting.
- Ability to lift instructional materials and supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students during classroom, snack, and transition periods.
Required Clearances
Candidates must successfully obtain and maintain the following clearances prior to employment:
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check (PATCH)
- FBI Criminal History Background Check (Fingerprinting)
- Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification
- Valid identification and employment eligibility documentation (Form I-9)
- Any additional clearances required by Ask For Tutoring, LLC and the Pennsylvania Department of Education
Work Environment
The Academic Success Coach/Tutor works in an educational setting serving students in grades K–12. The position requires professionalism, flexibility, collaboration, and a commitment to providing high-quality academic support while creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
Reports To: Director of Instruction/Academic Director
Employment Status: Part-Time or Full-Time Contractor (Based on Program Needs)
Pay: $300.00 - $750.00 per month
