Schedule
For nurses accepting a rotating Day/Night contract, schedules may include days, nights, or a combination of both based on departmental needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every four-week scheduling period and are determined by staffing requirements.
Weekend scheduling varies based on unit needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to Medical-Surgical and Progressive Care patients
- Float between oncology-focused Medical-Surgical units as needed
- Assess, monitor, and treat patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
- Maintain safety and security protocols within a corrections healthcare environment
- Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR
Patient Population
Patients may include:
- Active oncology patients receiving treatment for solid tumors or hematologic conditions
- Oncology workup admissions
- Patients with a history of cancer admitted for medical or surgical conditions
- General Medical-Surgical and Progressive Care patients with diagnoses including:
- COPD
- Sepsis
- Pneumonia
- Renal failure
- Abnormal laboratory findings
- Post-surgical recovery
Clinical Skills Required
Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
- Dysrhythmia recognition and management
- Telemetry monitoring
- IV insulin protocols
- Feeding tube management
- Pre/Post hemodialysis care
- Blood product administration
- Central line, PICC line, and peripheral IV management
- IV starts and phlebotomy
- Heparin protocol management
- Cardiac drips (non-titrated)
- PCA management
Respiratory Care
- CPAP/BIPAP management
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- ABG interpretation
- Oxygen therapy management
- Tracheostomy care
- Non-invasive airway management
Unit Information
- Secure corrections unit serving Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates
- Access-controlled unit staffed by Corrections Officers
- Corrections Officer to inmate ratio: 1:2
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:3
- Medical-Surgical: 1:4–5
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS certification required
- Epic charting experience required
- Medical-Surgical and/or Telemetry experience required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
