General Role Description: The Market Manager oversees the daily operations of the food bank, ensuring efficient distribution of food to those in need. This role involves managing staff and volunteers, coordinating with suppliers, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
Oversee the daily functions of the food program, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety, sanitation, and food service regulations.
Manage food inventory, including ordering, rotation, deliveries, and distribution, ensuring that all processes are efficient and in line with best practices.
Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring proper tracking of invoices, food weight, and inventory controls.
Conduct weekly waste reporting and facility safety inspections, ensuring the food program operates in a safe, sanitary, and compliant environment.
Lead efforts to continuously improve program efficiency, including optimizing the food distribution process and ensuring all food safety regulations are met.
Oversee the operation and logistics of the home delivery program, ensuring that food is safely and efficiently delivered to clients who are unable to attend the market in person.
Manage scheduling, coordination, and delivery staff, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries while maintaining high service standards.
Work closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure the home delivery program meets their expectations in terms of reliability, quality, and customer service.
Develop and implement procedures to streamline home delivery operations and ensure compliance with food safety and logistical guidelines.
Develop, manage, and monitor the program's annual budget, ensuring all expenses are within approved allocations and that financial resources are used efficiently.
Track program spending, analyze financial reports, and make recommendations for cost-saving measures or adjustments as necessary.
Ensure proper internal controls are in place to maintain budget integrity and accountability, providing regular updates to leadership on the program’s financial health.
Collaborate with leadership to identify funding opportunities and ensure financial transparency in reporting.
Oversee volunteer scheduling, recruitment, training, and engagement to ensure adequate staffing for market days, deliveries, and other food distribution events.
Mediate conflict if it arises between Volunteers and clients
Manage the coordination of volunteers, including local college students volunteering for class credit. Ensure that volunteer hours are tracked accurately and that no space is overloaded with volunteers.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local colleges and their faculty to coordinate student volunteers, ensuring that all requirements for class credit and volunteer hours are met.
Supervise and manage 3 interns and 4 AARP placements, providing support, training, and guidance to ensure their successful integration into the program.
Manage the Market Assistant, overseeing their daily responsibilities and offering mentorship for skill development and growth.
Hire new interns as needed, ensuring that they are properly trained, integrated into the program, and supported throughout their tenure.
Compile and submit 4 detailed reports each month, due on the 5th, covering various operational metrics, inventory status, volunteer performance, and program outcomes.
Ensure the timely and accurate submission of monthly reports from the Community Connector, maintaining consistency and adherence to deadlines.
Maintain accurate records on food donations, inventory, and distribution, ensuring all data is properly tracked for both internal and external reporting purposes.
Proactively seek innovations to enhance existing programs, increase operational efficiency, and better meet the needs of clients.
Develop and maintain a sustainable network of partnerships within the community, including with other food banks, suppliers, and potential food sourcing partners.
Engage with the broader community to expand Byrd Barr Place’s impact and foster collaboration with other organizations.
