Mobility Equipment Rehab Technician

About the Role
Tycon Medical is a local, family-owned business with nearly 30 years of experience building custom wheelchairs for our community. We are seeking a Rehab Technician to join our team and support the assembly, delivery, and ongoing service of Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) — the custom-configured wheelchairs and mobility equipment our customers depend on.
This position requires regular travel throughout the local service area, including significant time spent working directly in customers' homes. You will be responsible for delivering, fitting, and servicing equipment on-site, which means representing our company professionally while working in customers' personal spaces. A valid driver's license, and comfort spending much of your workday on the road is essential to this role.
No prior wheelchair experience is required. We provide on-the-job training on our equipment and systems. Candidates should bring mechanical aptitude, strong problem-solving skills, and a genuine commitment to customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assembly & Build Build and configure new custom wheelchairs according to the specific measurements and clinical requirements provided by the ATP and clinician.
Delivery & Fitting Travel to customers' homes and clinics to deliver and fit custom wheelchairs, making final mechanical adjustments on-site to ensure proper comfort, function, and safety. This is a core part of the role and requires professionalism, patience, and strong interpersonal skills while working in a customer's home.
Service & Repair Travel to service equipment already in the field, including battery replacements, joystick programming, and structural adjustments.
Part Management Identify and quote necessary replacement parts and components for repairs.
Documentation Complete all delivery tickets, service write-ups, and other required paperwork accurately and thoroughly to meet billing, HIPAA, ACHC, and payer requirements.
Patient & Caregiver Training Educate customers and caregivers, typically in their homes, on the proper use, function, and care of their mobility equipment.
Vehicle & Tools Maintain a clean, organized service vehicle and ensure all tools are accounted for and in safe working condition, as your vehicle serves as a mobile workspace for much of the job.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as this role requires regular local travel to customer homes and clinics
- Previous experience as a DME technician or in mechanical assembly/repair
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools
- Basic computer skills
- Must pass a background check
Physical Demands
- Must be able to frequently lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs; mechanical lifts, ramps, or team-lifting are required for heavier items such as power wheelchairs or hospital bed motors
- Fine motor skills required for handling small parts, wiring, and electronics
- Ability to spend the day traveling between appointments, driving, kneeling, and bending to perform equipment repairs, including extended time working inside customers' homes
