Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Working under the supervision of a Laboratory Manager or Director, the MLT ensures accurate and timely test results in accordance with laboratory protocols, regulatory guidelines (CLIA, CAP, OSHA), and quality assurance standards.
Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Immunology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank
Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
Verify and validate test results; identify discrepancies or unexpected findings
Document results accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Participate in quality control, proficiency testing, and quality improvement activities
Follow laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures
Assist with inventory management and supply stocking
Communicate effectively with providers, nurses, and clinical staff regarding urgent or critical results
Participate in continuing education and training activities
