Job Overview
We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to help design, build, and scale highly reliable backend systems for an AI platform serving industrial and manufacturing enterprises.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Go and PostgreSQL, strong experience with distributed systems and microservices, and a proven track record of scaling databases and backend infrastructure in production environments.
This role will have significant ownership over backend architecture, data scaling, database sharding, production migrations, reliability, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend services primarily using Go.
- Lead architecture and technical strategy for highly scalable backend systems.
- Design and implement PostgreSQL sharding, partitioning, replication, and storage strategies.
- Operate and optimize self-hosted PostgreSQL environments in production.
- Develop safe and reliable large-scale data migration strategies with minimal downtime.
- Build and optimize indexing strategies for embedding-heavy and high-volume workloads.
- Improve backend reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.
- Design and maintain microservices, APIs, and service-oriented architectures.
- Contribute significant production-quality code to core backend systems.
- Establish engineering best practices around architecture, testing, reliability, and development.
- Collaborate with Product, ML, and Frontend engineering teams.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the backend organization.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex backend systems from architecture through production.
- Strong, hands-on expertise in Go (Golang).
- Deep knowledge of concurrency, performance optimization, distributed systems, and backend architecture.
- Extensive production experience with PostgreSQL, including:
- Performance tuning
- Replication
- Vacuuming
- Storage optimization
- Operational management
- Hands-on experience operating self-hosted PostgreSQL, beyond managed services such as RDS.
- Proven experience with database scaling, sharding, partitioning, and large-scale data migrations.
- Strong understanding of microservices, SOA, and API design.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of production observability, including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
- Experience working independently in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.
- Strong ownership and ability to drive projects from concept to production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Python experience, particularly with ML/AI systems.
- Experience with React or frontend technologies.
- Experience with Datadog, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability platforms.
- Experience working with AI, machine learning, embeddings, or agentic systems
