The Hospitalist Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will deliver primary health care in the hospital setting to include, but not limited to, the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries; and the provisioning of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
Obtains and records patient history
Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement. Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement in the specific clinical area and performs a periodic review of the collaborative agreement.
Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies
Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner
Performs physical and medical screening examinations
Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards
Adequately manages patient flow in the Emergency Department
Completes required courses, i.e. HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME /CEU requirements
Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate
Actively participates in staff meetings and risk management education
Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources
Functions as House Provider (responds to all RRT 's and leads ACLS/Codes)
Participates as a Member of the CWHMC CODE committee
Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, and additional therapeutic modalities, etc.
Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician
Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team. Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide comprehensive patient management.
Provides acute/primary health care in accordance with written policies approved by nursing and medical administration.
Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months
