About Us
Ironrod Steel is a Houston-based steel distributor and metal fabricator. We fabricate fence panels, gates, handrails, guardrails, and bollards in-house — and we supply structural tube, angle, flat bar, sheet, and plate to contractors across the Houston area.
The Role
You'll own the full cycle — find the work, price it, win it, and hand it off to our fab shop. This is an in-shop position where you'll work alongside our team daily.
Your day-to-day:
- Take off and price fence, gate, handrail, guardrail, and bollard projects from plans and specs
- Bid through BuildingConnected, plan rooms, and direct GC solicitations
- Build and maintain relationships with general contractors
- Bring in new work — not just respond to what lands in the inbox
- Coordinate with our fab shop on materials, scope, and timelines
- Follow up on bids, close deals, and manage the pipeline
What You Bring
- Estimating experience in fencing, railing, gates, or misc metals — not general construction
- You can read architectural and structural drawings
- Proficient with Bluebeam, Excel, or similar takeoff software
- Sales mentality — you want to win work, not just price it
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required
- Must be local to Houston and able to work from our shop
What We Pay
$15-$17/hr base (depending on experience) + 5% commission on every dollar collected
The base keeps your lights on. The commission is where the real money is.
- Win $50K/month - earn ~$65K/year
- Win $75K/month - earn ~$80K/year
- Win $100K/month - earn ~$95K/year
No cap. Commission is paid when the customer pays — we both eat when the job collects.
Location
Houston, TX — this is an in-shop position. Not remote.
