Inspects public works and private property construction projects for compliance with plans, ordinances and standards. Tests, evaluates and documents the quality, performance and acceptability of construction materials in the field and laboratory. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Inspects during construction and upon completion, a full range of public Works and capital improvement projects including streets, alleys, storm drains, irrigation systems and parks improvements for compliance with specifications, guidelines, approved plans, ordinances and standards.

Reviews and interprets plan, specifications, civils and architectural drawing and blueprints, contract change order requests and material submittals and certifications. Reviews as-built drawing for accuracy and completeness. Prepares drawing to convey construction information and to illustrate standard details and reviews as built drawing for accuracy and completeness.

Inspects street and road construction including sub-grading, placing of materials and rock, oiling and placing of final surfaces.

Performs various tests in the field; material test, pressure test, leakage test, water and sanitary sewer lines, chlorine test for highs and lows and nuclear gage testing.

Monitors supplemental materials testing contracts.

Oversees, performs and interprets all AASTO, ASTM, MAG and ADOT test methods as required by project specifications.

Participates in pre-construction meetings with contractors to provide information relative to Public Works procedures; reviews plans prior to project start; meets with and/or responds to inquiries from contractors during the life of the project; conducts daily inspections and site checks; maintains logs and records reflecting construction and installation of all Public Works improvement projects.

Functions as project lead and technical expert for other Inspectors on large and complex dry utility construction projects.

Coordinates with contractors and serves as liaison between contractors and other City departments.

Negotiates with contractors regarding compliance, extra work requests and proposed additions and deletions to the contract.

Monitors contractor performance and issues notices and orders to comply, stop work orders and resume work orders as necessary.

Evaluates methods used in asphaltic concrete production and placement. Resolves issues with contractors and consultants regarding specifications; delays constructions until specifications are met.

Inspects the methods used in production of asphalt and concrete and coordinates the sampling and testing of materials used.

Measures and records completed quantities of accepted contract pay items.

Prioritizes, schedules, performs and documents field and laboratory testing to evaluate the acceptability of materials used on City construction projects with the City right of way.

Reviews and evaluates materials and prepares laboratory and field computations to obtain results. Maintains records of all testing performed in the field.

Operates city vehicles.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Requires lifting of heavy construction materials of up to 65 pounds. Enters, exits, and operates city vehicles.
Duties require working in field areas around construction equipment, in traffic, and in trenches. Exposure to seasonal weather conditions, excessive noise, radioactivity, dust and hazardous substances.
