Become a Diesel Technician for FREE
Are you a New Yorker looking for a fresh start? The NYC Mayor's Office is funding free Diesel Tech training through Emerge Career. Build a hands-on career as a diesel technician and earn a competitive wage diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel engines and systems that power trucks, buses, and heavy equipment. The program covers everything — training costs and all expenses on your path to employment.
Program Details:
- 10 seats available (part-time, evenings only)
- Schedule: Monday through Thursday nights, 5:30 pm – 9 pm
- Training Location: Westbury, NY
- Duration: August 31 – December 17, 2026
How It Works:
- Apply Online: Complete Emerge Career's application. If you're eligible, you'll be contacted to move forward.
- Enrollment Interview: Talk with the Emerge Career team about your availability, career goals, and fit.
- Diesel Tech Training: Attend in-person evening classes in Westbury, NY. Hands-on training covering diesel engines, fuel and electrical systems, brakes, drivetrains, and preventive maintenance.
- Job Placement: Once you complete the program, Emerge Career helps you land a job with employers who hire people with records.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a New York City resident
- Must be justice-involved or justice-impacted (arrest, probation, parole, or incarceration)
- Valid driver's license required
- Must have reliable transportation to Westbury, NY
- Basic knowledge of tools and mechanical tasks (recommended)
- No pending criminal cases
- Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis
About the Program:
Funded by the NYC Mayor's Office, this diesel tech program is designed to connect justice-impacted New York City residents with skilled trades careers. Emerge Career provides hands-on training, career support, and job placement with second-chance employers. Featured in CBS, the Boston Globe, and NBC.
Pay: $50,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
