American Traveler is seeking an experienced Psychiatric RN for a 13-week travel contract on an Adult Behavioral Health unit at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Adult Behavioral Health unit in a large academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma hospital with 885 licensed beds
-
24-bed unit with a daily census of 18–20 patients
-
Patient population includes adults 18+ with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation; unit may also serve postpartum patients with compounding psychiatric diagnoses

Open day room unit serving all diagnoses; not a designated detox center, though some patients may be naturally detoxing

RN-to-patient ratio of 1:6
-
EMR: Epic (experience required); Encompass also in use
-
Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, seclusion room, restraint bed, and restraint chair; breast pumps and BiPAP available for patients with comorbidities

12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

No on-call requirements

Floating required to Peds Behavioral Health

Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS and CPI certifications required
-
Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Strong de-escalation and interpersonal communication skills required
-
Experience with physical and medical restraints, medication administration, and psychiatric patient documentation required
-
Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
-
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Provide direct and indirect psychiatric patient care in collaboration with the treatment team
-
Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families through participation in treatment programs and group activities (group facilitation is a plus but not required)
-
Unit support staff includes CNAs, Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, and phlebotomy; Rapid Response Team, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist are all available 24/7
-
Orientation consists of NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Royal blue scrubs required

Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
