Experienced Fiber Optic Technician / Splicer – FTTH & Internet Support
Pay: $25.00–$36.00 per hour based on demonstrated experience and proficiency
SOBO Telecom is a veteran-owned telecommunications contractor based in Littleton, Colorado. We are seeking experienced Fiber Optic Technicians, Fiber Splicers, and FTTH/Internet Support Technicians to join our team.
Our technicians work across fiber construction, production splicing, testing, troubleshooting, restoration, and residential fiber internet support. We are looking for people who understand fiber—not simply how to operate a fusion splicer.
Candidates may have stronger experience in production fiber work, FTTH/service work, or both. Compensation and position level are based on demonstrated proficiency.
Responsibilities
Depending on experience and assignment, responsibilities include:
- Install, repair, splice, troubleshoot, and test fiber optic networks.
- Prepare and splice both loose-tube and ribbon fiber.
- Perform single-fiber and mass fusion splicing.
- Build and organize fiber optic splice enclosures.
- Properly route and store fiber within splice trays and enclosures.
- Perform grounding, bonding, cable-strength-member retention, slack storage, and enclosure sealing.
- Connect and rearrange fiber facilities according to splice documentation.
- Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, fiber assignments, and other engineering documentation.
- Use an OTDR, optical power meter, VFL, and fiber inspection equipment to test and troubleshoot fiber.
- Interpret test results and isolate fiber faults.
- Inspect and clean fiber connectors and interfaces.
- Locate and repair damaged fiber.
- Perform production splicing and network testing.
- Support emergency fiber restoration when required.
- Install fiber panels and related telecommunications equipment.
- Place fiber through existing conduit and pathways.
- Maintain and protect company vehicles, fusion splicers, test equipment, tools, and materials.
SOBO Telecom performs both OSP and ISP fiber work; however, we do not perform aerial construction, and our Fiber Optic Technicians are not responsible for underground conduit or vault construction/placement.
FTTH & Internet Support
SOBO Telecom also provides field support for residential fiber internet customers. Technicians assigned to this work may:
- Troubleshoot residential fiber internet outages and service issues.
- Install, remove, and replace customer-premise equipment.
- Activate customer fiber services.
- Troubleshoot ONTs, SmartNIDs, gateways, Wi-Fi, and related equipment.
- Test optical signal levels.
- Determine whether a service issue originates from the fiber, customer-premise equipment, provisioning, Wi-Fi/local network, or another condition.
- Locate and repair damaged customer fiber drops.
- Perform fusion splicing and fiber repairs when required.
- Verify proper service operation before leaving the customer location.
- Communicate findings and completed work professionally with customers.
Experience with FTTH, GPON, Quantum Fiber, Qmate, or similar ISP platforms is preferred but not required. Experienced technicians from other fiber internet providers are encouraged to apply.
Documentation & Accountability
At SOBO Telecom, the job is not complete until the work is properly documented.
Technicians are expected to:
- Clock in and out accurately using company workforce applications.
- Review assigned work before beginning the job.
- Maintain accurate job status and documentation in Zuper.
- Write clear and detailed job notes.
- Document troubleshooting performed, findings, repairs, and completed work.
- Record equipment installed, removed, repaired, or replaced.
- Upload required jobsite and closeout photographs.
- Attach required test results and documentation.
- Identify unresolved conditions or required follow-up.
- Properly complete and close assigned work orders.
- Communicate delays, access issues, material shortages, or unexpected field conditions promptly.
- Maintain dependable attendance and appropriate productivity throughout the workday.
