The Whitman County Gazette — Washington state's oldest continually published newspaper — is looking for a sports reporter to cover numerous small towns where athletics are the highlight of the week. We have a variety of high school sports, as well as outdoor recreational activities. In addition to traditional sports, our reporter will cover rodeo, sprint boat racing, shooting events, fishing on the Snake River and more. When local sports are slow, there's also a possibility of covering Washington State University athletics.
The Gazette is the most-read newspaper in Whitman County, reaching multiple rural communities where more than 80% of homes receive the newspaper. It is also part of Free Press Publishing, which offers an opportunity to be part of a regional news team across five counties in Eastern Washington wheat country.
This is an in-person position; no remote reporting. If you live and breathe sports, you'll have a sideline view. We're looking for a sports journalist who strives to reach a dedicated print, digital and social media readership.
Email a cover letter, resume, three professional references and clips. No telephone calls.
