The Cultivator supports the day-to-day care and production of cannabis plants throughout the cultivation cycle. This hands-on role involves plant care, environmental monitoring, harvesting, cleaning, recordkeeping, and maintaining compliance with established cultivation procedures and state regulations.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced cultivation environment, and knowledgeable about basic plant care and indoor growing practices.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily cultivation tasks throughout all stages of the plant growth cycle.
- Support propagation activities, including cutting and sticking clones, watering, feeding, and maintaining clone and mother plants.
- Monitor environmental conditions including lighting, temperature, humidity, moisture levels, and plant nutrition.
- Inspect plants for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and other potential issues.
- Follow Integrated Pest Management (IPM) procedures as directed.
- Perform plant care activities including:
- Transplanting
- Pruning and defoliation
- Plant training and staking
- Watering and feeding
- Monitoring plant health and development
- Accurately label plants and maintain required inventory and cultivation records within the state-mandated seed-to-sale tracking system.
- Assist with harvesting activities including cutting plants, breaking down harvested material, defoliating, weighing, hanging, and organizing plants in designated drying areas.
- Monitor drying and curing environments and associated climate-control systems.
- Assist with cannabis product preparation and packaging during peak production periods.
- Operate and maintain cultivation equipment and systems, including lighting, irrigation, and environmental controls.
- Monitor, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain cultivation equipment as needed.
- Stock, organize, and handle cultivation supplies, materials, and production inputs.
- Clean and sanitize grow rooms, workspaces, equipment, and tools.
- Follow all safety, security, compliance, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain accurate documentation and inventory records.
- Work collaboratively with cultivation team members to meet daily production goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge of indoor cultivation practices and plant growth factors such as lighting, irrigation, soil or growing media, nutrients, and HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with cultivation techniques such as cloning, transplanting, pruning, plant training, watering, and feeding.
- Understanding of different cultivars and their individual growing requirements is preferred.
- Ability to perform cultivation techniques accurately and consistently.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and inventory-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining a production schedule.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed.
- Must meet the minimum age requirements established by applicable state cannabis regulations.
- Must successfully complete a background check as required.
Working Conditions
This position is performed in an indoor cultivation facility with significant exposure to plant material and pollen. Work areas may experience varying temperatures and high humidity levels.
Employees may also be exposed to dust, plant particles, cleaning products, and other materials that may affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on the task and work area.
The position also involves repetitive movements and regular cleaning and sanitation responsibilities.
Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
- Push, pull, lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend, and squat for extended periods.
- Perform repetitive movements and tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Use hands and fingers to handle plants, tools, equipment, and other materials.
- Work around approved cultivation and cleaning chemicals while following established safety procedures.
- Clean and maintain cultivation areas, equipment, and tools.
- Wear required PPE, including protective clothing and closed-toe, non-slip footwear.
