Accountant Controller
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices. This role is responsible for managing financial records, maintaining the general ledger, and overseeing the financial operations of our sporting goods manufacturing company. This role plays a key part in driving financial performance by providing critical financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The Accountant Controller will also partner with management to oversee benefit plans and support business decisions, optimize operations, and ensure compliance with policies / procedures and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, including preparation of monthly financial reporting package.
- Overall balance sheet / general ledger ownership including month-end close process and all account reconciliations.
- Perform cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity and financial stability.
- Prepare variance analysis comparing actual results to budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
- Work directly with accounting firm for our wholly owned Mexican subsidiary regarding monthly budgeting, payroll, and accounts payable requirements.
- Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and present actionable insights to management to drive financial efficiency and cost savings.
- Lead the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads and management.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
- Manage cost accounting processes, including the analysis of production costs, labor, materials, and overhead.
- Correspond with staff from our Mexico factory to provide oversight of accounting for inventory, payroll, and expenditures.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure the integrity of cost accounting data and inventory valuations.
- Responsible for reporting and analysis of all production variances including bulk, raw materials, finished goods, and manufacturing costs.
- Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of ERP master data.
Operational & Strategic Support:
- Assist with the administration of company benefit plans, including 401k, HSA, health insurance, life insurance, and L&I reporting.
- Partner with management to provide financial insights that support decision-making and operational improvements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial and operational performance.
Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Assist in external audits by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting and filing requirements (including both federal, state, and local).
- Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and internal controls related to financial operations.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and develop accounting personnel (A/R, A/P, and payroll), providing coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Manage team procedures and ensure adequate coverage of critical functions.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- CPA or MBA is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing operations and cost structures.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably Apprise.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
