The Director of Finance is a key member of the senior leadership team responsible for the overall financial management, compliance, and fiscal health of Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens. This role oversees all financial systems including budgeting, reporting, audits, cash flow management, and internal controls.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Finance partners closely with executive leadership to provide strategic financial guidance, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational decision-making.
Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Lead financial management and strategy for the organization.
- Provide financial insights to COO, COP and CEO, and senior leadership.
- Analyze financial performance and recommend corrective actions.
- Support long-term financial planning and sustainability.
- Assess contracts and advise leadership on financial impact.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Develop and manage annual organizational budget.
- Oversee contract and program budgets.
- Provide forecasts and variance analysis.
- Support departments in budget development.
- Prepare documentation for budget modifications.
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Provide reports to leadership and Board.
- Analyze balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
- Ensure accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds.
Compliance, Audits & Internal Controls
- Develop and maintain internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee annual audit, IRS Form 990, and NYS CFR reporting.
- Serve as liaison to external auditors.
Cash Flow & Banking Management
- Manage cash flow and financial stability.
- Oversee banking relationships.
- Develop cash flow projections.
Payroll, Benefits & Retirement Oversight
- Oversee payroll processes in coordination with HR.
- Ensure compliance with wage laws.
- Oversee 403(b) administration and compliance.
Grant & Contract Financial Management
- Oversee financial tracking for grants and contracts.
- Ensure compliance with funding requirements.
- Support financial reporting for grants.
Systems & Organizational Improvement
- Improve financial systems and workflows.
- Support transitions such as billing or system upgrades.
- Ensure integration across departments.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor bookkeepers.
- Ensure accurate daily financial operations.
- Provide training and performance feedback.
Skill Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 8–10+ years accounting experience.
- 2+ years nonprofit experience required.
- 2–3 years supervisory experience required.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit finance and compliance.
- Experience with audits and financial reporting.
