American Traveler is seeking a Surgical First Assistant with strong multi-specialty experience, including orthopedics and robotics, for a hospital Main OR position at a Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI.

Hospital Main OR setting at a 938-bed Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility in Milwaukee, WI
-
Primary focus on orthopedic cases, with cross-coverage required across all surgical specialties

Patient population includes Neuro/ENT, Orthopedic, General, Breasts/Plastics, Vascular, Laparoscopic, General Oncology, GU, GYN, and Robotic (da Vinci Xi) cases

1:1 patient ratio
-
Evening shift, 11:00–19:30, 40 hours per week

Cross-training to all Main OR specialties and Urology center; no floating to other hospitals
-
On-call requirements include AM and PM/overnight call slots on a rotating basis throughout an 8-week schedule; 30-minute response time required

Orthopedic Surgical Assistants have 1 call day per week Monday–Thursday and 1 call weekend every 5 weeks (Friday–Sunday)

Weekend rotation with 1–2 weekend shifts per 8-week schedule

Uses Epic EMR, Alaris, and Pyxis

13-week contract

Minimum of 2 years of surgical first assist experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Strong background in Robots (da Vinci Xi), Neuro, General, Ortho, and ENT required; proficiency across all surgical specialties expected
-
Demonstrated ability to function as Surgical First or Second Assistant in complex cases
-
BLS certification required
-
Active license required, if applicable

Epic EMR experience
-
1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year
-
Candidate DOB and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Candidate's middle name or initial required for consideration

Functions as Surgical First or Second Assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures
-
May perform Surgical Technologist responsibilities when required, though not concurrently with first assist duties

Robotic assistance is available only to candidates with a strong background; agency travelers will not be trained on robotics
-
Orientation is approximately 2 weeks, including education/paperwork, general, ortho, neuro, and urology rotations (subject to change based on unit needs)

Supported by Charge Nurses, Leads, and Supervisors

Hospital-provided surgical scrubs; scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant

Holiday coverage expectations apply; details available upon inquiry
