Duties
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with behavioral health needs and those requiring medical-surgical interventions, ensuring safety, comfort, and dignity.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, mental status evaluations, and physical examinations.
- Administer medications accurately, including IV infusions and injections, following established protocols and safety standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans that address both mental health and physical health requirements.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation, medication administration records, and care coordination.
- Implement aseptic techniques during procedures such as suturing or specimen collection to prevent infection.
- Provide patient education on treatment plans, medication management, and discharge instructions to promote ongoing recovery.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies while ensuring high standards of patient care.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
- Demonstrated experience in behavioral health nursing, medical-surgical units, or critical care environments such as ICU or trauma centers.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic or Cerner; experience with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of nursing procedures such as IV insertion, catheter care, tube feeding, and ventilator management.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with pain management techniques, trauma medicine protocols, and acute psychiatric interventions.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to assess complex patient needs accurately.
- Additional skills such as wound suturing, dialysis assistance, or hospice & palliative medicine experience are advantageous but not mandatory.
