Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher - Resource to join our dynamic educational team. In this role, you will provide tailored instructional support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism, and other special needs. Your expertise will help foster an inclusive classroom environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Duties
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique learning styles and needs
- Deliver engaging lessons in core subjects such as literacy, math (including calculus and algebra), and physical education, utilizing adaptive teaching methods and learning technology
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through proven behavior management techniques for students with disabilities and special needs
- Conduct assessments, standardized testing, and progress monitoring to evaluate student growth and inform instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, counselors, and families to coordinate support services and ensure compliance with special education law and educational regulations
- Design specialized curricula that accommodate diverse student populations while promoting inclusive learning environments
- Use communication skills to mentor students, facilitate social skills development, and foster positive classroom dynamics
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Valid state certification/license for special education teaching (resource setting)
- Demonstrated classroom experience working with students with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of IEP development, special education law, and educational compliance standards
- Strong skills in curriculum development, lesson planning, behavior management, and classroom management
- Familiarity with learning styles adaptability and designing differentiated instruction for diverse learners
- Experience integrating learning technology tools into daily instruction
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, families, and external specialists
- Ability to perform proofreading of instructional materials and ensure adherence to the Chicago Manual of Style or similar standards
