Job Summary
We are urgently seeking passionate and dedicated Yu'pik Interpreters to join our dynamic team! In this vital role, you will serve as a linguistic bridge, facilitating clear and accurate communication between Yu'pik speakers and English-speaking individuals across various settings. Your expertise will empower communities, facilitate communcation during court hearings, and enhance access to essential services. Duties
- Provide accurate interpretation between Yu'pik and English in diverse contexts, including medical, educational, legal, and community settings
- Conduct over-the-phone or Video-remote interpretation to assist remote clients and organizations efficiently
- Support educational interpretation efforts by assisting students, teachers, and administrators with language needs
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions, ensuring respectful and culturally sensitive communication
- Prepare and deliver clear translation of documents or spoken content as needed
- Collaborate with community organizations to promote linguistic accessibility and cultural understanding
Skills
- Multilingual proficiency in Yu'pik and English with strong interpretation skills
- Expertise in translation techniques for both spoken and written language
- Experience with over-the-phone interpretation platforms and procedures
- Ability to perform educational interpretation with sensitivity to cultural nuances
- Excellent communication skills—listening actively and conveying messages accurately
- Background in linguistics or related fields enhances understanding of language structures and usage
- Experience and expertise in legal and or medical interpretation
